There's a new track in town, available to motorsports groups as of Spring of 2003.

The yellow overlay in the photograph above shows the layout of the 2.3 mile track,

We're expecting (hoping) to be able to arrange an event here every year, or at least every other year, at this new track built by George Barber outside of Birmingham. However, due to the cost of renting this outstanding roadcourse track (cost is comparable to Road Atlanta) it would probably have to be a major regional event to be able to cover the costs ($15,000-$20,000 per weekend day) or shared with another club group. We've done this track in the past jointly with RPM Group and it's gone well, with one run group for Ferraris, and on run group for everyone else.

Below are some details about the track.

Track information:

  • 2.3 mile track; 45 feet wide; 16 turns; elevation changes of 50 feet.
  • Track is designed for both motorcycle and car racing.
  • Designed by Alan Wilson, well-known track designer.
  • Designed to meet the highest standards of safety.
  • Designed to meet FIA and FIM standards.

Important Characteristics of the Barber Motorsports Park:

  • Safety features included in original design, not added afterwards.
  • From many viewing areas, 70% of the track is visible.
  • Extensive landscaping with plantings of bulbs, trees, and shrubs.
  • Loop road encircles track allowing convenient parking to most areas of the track.
  • Park is 15 minutes from downtown Birmingham and 10 minutes from the Birmingham International Airport.
  • Park has convenient access to Interstate 20.
